Year 4 Leeds Rugby Champions

28 June 2016 (by admin)

Our Year 4 rugby team won a tournament which meant we now officially the Leeds champions!

Inspired by the success of our Olympians earlier in the day, the boys (some of whom competed in both events) got off to a flying start beating Woodlesford B 5-1. They followed that with a 3-1 win over Shire Oak before a narrow defeat to Holy Family. A 5-2 win over Woodlesford A was next before they rounded out the group stage with a 2-2 draw with St. Theresa's. The semi final saw an immediate rematch with St. Theresa's where we triumphed 2-0. The final was a grudge match against Holy Family where we took an early lead. They responded with a try but scored just before full time to lead 2-1. A miscommunication over timing saw a controversial ending with Holy Family after everyone else thought the game had finished. They were allowed to play on and scored again to take the game into extra time. No one could grab a winner and with tempers becoming frayed it was decided to share the trophy. Well done to all the boys - they were a credit to themselves under difficult circumstances. Thanks to Mr Nowell, Mr Mejaat and Mrs Armitage for giving up their evenings.
