14 runners represented Lower Wortley and Leeds at the West Yorkshire Winter School Games on Saturday with a great deal of success.
Despite a long and drawn out opening ceremony, it was finally time for the event to begin. Conditions were difficult for the first race - the Year 4 boys. They worked together as a team to get themselves round with Joe finishing in 26h place and Oscar and Ayomide also in the top 30. Declan and Lucas performed well to complete a strong team performance. Niamh led the Year 4 girls round finishing credibly in the top 50 with Ruby and Tegan also running well.
It was Dylan who stole the show individually finishing 13th in his race and only narrowly missing out on a place in the national finals - a target for next year! By the time the Year 6 races began the conditions were appalling and the children had been at the venue for almost 4 hours. Our boys team ran well against strong competition with Theo leading the way in 55th place. Sam, Joe and Jenson ensured the team completed the event. Faye was last to go and she ran bravely to finish 29th - a great effort running individually.
Thanks to everyone who gave up their Saturdays to transport and support your children and thanks to Mrs Giles and Mrs Geldard for organising them on the day.
Almost a week later I received a phone call...our Year 4 boys team had finished in third place! Third in the whole of West Yorkshire - a brilliant effort boys - well done!
