Domination at West Leeds Cross Country Competition
18 March 2016 (by admin)
Out of six teams, three finished first and three finished third as we also saw 17 runners qualify for the West Yorkshire School Games in a memorable night at Priesthorpe.
It was a large and strong team of 36 runners who represented Lower Wortley. Year 3/4 girls were up first achieving a great 1st place with a young and inexperienced team - Niamh was the stand out athlete narrowly missing out on a medal as she agonisingly finished 4th! Our star Year 3/4 boys also finished 1st with Joe and Ayomide claiming silver and bronze respectively and Oscar and Declan only just behind.
The Year 5 girls finished 3rd with Jessica heading home in 5th place after a brave run. Year 5 boys followed, also finished 3rd. Despite suffering an injury after a fall, Dylan battled back to claim a bronze medal, only losing out in the home straight due to energy he had used catching up earlier. Matthew also ran bravely to finish in the top 10.
Year 6 girls, who had travelled reluctantly in the most part performed admirably with Faye finishing 2nd and qualifying (along with Dylan) as an individual runner for Leeds in the West Yorkshire competition. The Year 6 motivated each other to annihilate the competition. Theo was second, Deakon an unlucky 4th and Sam and Joe also finishing in the top 8.
It was a busy event - the biggest West Leeds cross country competition ever. Our success is purely down to the talent, attitude and determination of our pupils. Well done everyone!
Thank you to all the staff who came to help out and support and the usual support from all family and friends!
