Penalty Shoot Out Heartbreak
12 January 2016 (by admin)
Our brilliant Year Six football team finished joint third in a city wide football tournament following a nail biting penalty shoot out defeat in the semi final.
The best schools from around the city gathered at Leeds Sports Centre to play a 6 a side competition. Our campaign began with a tense, come from begin victory over Holy Family - Theo and Deakon scoring the goals.
We won another close game 2-1 with Theo netting twice before edging a classic against Shakespeare 4-3 in our final group game thanks to a hat trick from Joe and one more from captain Theo.
We had won our group, which was undoubtedly the toughest group. Our semi final against reigning champions St. Theresa's was another great game. They took the lead twice but an equaliser from Theo and another in the last minute from Deakon saw the game finish 2-2. The awful situation of 10 year olds taking penalties followed and after 5 penalties it was locked at 3 all. Eventually we lost on the 8th penalty in sudden death - a terrible way to go out but the sportsmanship from both sides in victory and defeat was outstanding.
They went on to beat Holy Family 4-0 in the final. It was a great effort by the boys. Will made a number of incredible saves and his handling was fabulous. Luke and Jenson were rocks at the back all day barely letting anything though and playing with great composure. Ryan and Deakon, were terrier like in midfield competing for every ball with Joe and Theo creating and scoring some brilliant goals.
We have another tournament school and hope to qualify for the West Leeds finals where we should be very competitive!
